Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how Matchmaker App ("Matchmaker," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, discloses, and protects your personal information when you use our mobile application and related services (the "Service"). This policy applies to all users worldwide and includes additional disclosures required under the EU General Data Protection Regulation ("GDPR"), the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the CPRA ("CCPA"), and other applicable data protection laws.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Information You Provide Directly

Account Information: Name, email address, phone number, date of birth / age, location (city/state), profile photograph.

Faith and Compatibility Data: Religious denomination, church or community affiliation, faith story, personal values, compatibility preferences (views on relocation, children, finances, communication styles). Under GDPR, religious data is classified as "special category" data and is processed solely on the basis of your explicit consent provided during account creation.

Social Media Information: Platform names and handles you voluntarily provide (e.g., Instagram, LinkedIn) to facilitate introductions.

Communications: Chat messages, voice messages, introduction notes, feedback on introductions, and any correspondence with our support team.

1.2 Information Collected With Your Permission

Device Contacts: With your explicit opt-in consent, we access names and phone numbers from your device contact list. This data is used exclusively to: (a) identify contacts who are existing Matchmaker users; (b) display mutual connections for matchmaking purposes; and (c) enable you to invite non-users. We do not access contact emails, photos, notes, or any other contact fields. You may revoke this permission at any time through your device settings, and we will cease processing contact data upon revocation (previously synced data will be deleted within 7 days).

Push Notification Token: With your permission, we collect your device's push notification token to send you alerts about introductions, messages, and relevant updates.

Camera / Photo Library: Accessed only when you choose to upload a profile photo. We do not access your camera or photos at any other time.

1.3 Information Collected Automatically

Device type, operating system version, app version, IP address, general location derived from IP address, app usage patterns (screens visited, features used), crash reports, and performance data. We do not use third-party tracking SDKs or advertising identifiers.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information for the following purposes:

Provide the Service: Create your account, display your profile to matchmakers and potential matches, facilitate introductions and communications.

Safety and Integrity: Enforce community standards through content filtering, investigate reported violations, and protect user safety.

Improve the Service: Analyze usage patterns to improve features, fix bugs, and optimize performance.

Communications: Send service-related notifications (introduction alerts, messages), and with your consent, product updates and announcements.

Subscription Management: Process payments, manage subscription status, and provide purchase receipts.

Legal Compliance: Comply with applicable laws, respond to lawful requests from authorities, and enforce our Terms of Service.

3. Legal Basis for Processing (GDPR)

For users in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, and Switzerland, we process your data under the following legal bases:

Contract Performance (Art. 6(1)(b)): Processing necessary to provide the Service you requested (account management, introductions, messaging).

Explicit Consent (Art. 9(2)(a)): Processing of religious data (denomination, faith story, church affiliation). You provide this consent during onboarding and may withdraw it at any time.

Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)): Contact data access, push notifications, marketing communications. Withdrawable at any time.

Legitimate Interest (Art. 6(1)(f)): Safety enforcement, fraud prevention, service improvement, and analytics where these interests are not overridden by your rights.

4. Who We Share Your Information With

We never sell your personal information. We share data only as follows:

Other Users: Your profile information (name, photo, age, location, denomination, values, faith story) is visible to matchmakers and, upon mutual acceptance of an introduction, to the other introduced party. Compatibility answers are only revealed after mutual acceptance.

Service Providers: We use the following third-party services that process data on our behalf under data processing agreements: Supabase (database hosting and authentication), Railway (API server hosting), Supabase Storage (profile photos, voice messages), Expo / Apple Push Notification Service / Firebase Cloud Messaging (push notifications), Resend (transactional email delivery), RevenueCat (subscription payment processing), Sentry (error tracking and crash reporting).

Legal Requirements: We may disclose information when required by law, subpoena, court order, or governmental request, or when we believe disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, your safety, or the safety of others.

5. Data Retention

Active Accounts: We retain your data for as long as your account is active.

Account Deletion: Upon account deletion, personally identifiable information is removed within 30 days. Chat messages involving your account are retained in anonymized form for 90 days for safety review, then permanently deleted.

Contact Data: Synced contacts are deleted within 7 days of you revoking contact permission or deleting your account.

Inactive Accounts: Accounts inactive for more than 12 months may be subject to deletion after 30 days' notice.

Legal Holds: We may retain data longer if required by law or for ongoing legal proceedings.

6. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the following rights:

Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.

Correction: Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data.

Deletion: Request deletion of your account and associated data (available directly in the App under Profile โ†’ Delete Account).

Data Portability: Request your data in a structured, machine-readable format.

Restrict Processing: Request that we limit processing of your data in certain circumstances.

Object to Processing: Object to processing based on legitimate interest.

Withdraw Consent: Withdraw consent for processing of religious data, contact data, or marketing communications at any time without affecting the lawfulness of prior processing.

6.1 California Residents (CCPA/CPRA)

California residents have additional rights including: the right to know what personal information we collect, use, and disclose; the right to delete personal information; the right to opt out of the sale of personal information (we do not sell your data); and the right to non-discrimination for exercising your rights. To submit a request, email privacy@matchmaker.app with "California Privacy Request" in the subject line.

7. International Data Transfers

Your data may be transferred to and processed in the United States and other countries where our service providers operate. For transfers from the EEA/UK, we rely on Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission, adequacy decisions, or your explicit consent where applicable. By using the Service, you acknowledge that your data may be transferred internationally.

8. Data Security

We implement industry-standard technical and organizational measures to protect your data, including: encryption in transit (TLS 1.2+) and at rest; secure authentication via Supabase Auth; access controls limiting employee access to personal data; regular security reviews of our infrastructure; and rate limiting to prevent abuse. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed to individuals under 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we become aware that a user is under 18, we will immediately terminate their account and delete all associated data. If you believe a minor is using the Service, please contact us at safety@matchmaker.app.

10. Cookie and Tracking Policy

The Matchmaker mobile application does not use cookies, web beacons, or third-party advertising trackers. We do not participate in interest-based advertising. Analytics data is collected using first-party tooling only.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. Material changes will be communicated via in-app notification and/or email at least 14 days before they take effect. The "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy will be revised. Your continued use of the Service after the effective date constitutes acceptance. If you disagree with any changes, you should stop using the Service and delete your account.
